DESIGN OF THE GOLDEN BOOK OF THE CITY OF DEGGENDORF

I received a particularly exciting commission from the town of Deggendorf. They needed a new Golden Book for 2026, in which their guests of honour would sign their names. I was asked to supplement the opening pages – the text of which had already been written in calligraphy – with drawings depicting the town of Deggendorf. In some cases there were clear guidelines, whilst in others I was given free rein. I contributed the following drawings:

Town coat of arms and town colours
Tempera und ink
11 x 13 cm / 3 x 4 cm

Silhouette of Deggendorf
Graphit
26 x 8 cm

Deggendorf cityscape
Water colours and coloured pencils
23 x 16 cm

The cityscape depicts the topography and settlement pattern of the city within its boundaries. It’s quite a challenge to draw. The towers in the silhouette aren’t actually that close together in reality. The drawing breathes some life into an urban logo in the form of a silhouette. When incorporated into the book, the page layout looks like this.

It’s an exciting project, particularly when you consider how long the book will be used (its predecessor was used for almost 80 years, so this one will probably outlive me) and all the people who will sign it and perhaps take a look at my drawings whilst they’re at it. You could call it a real project for the future...
